Please take the time to read the following information. Should you require more information on a particular policy or procedure, please contact ATA.
Entry requirements There are no entry requirements for courses at ATA. Students who have achieved a good Year 10 or 11 standard should be able to cope well with the requirements of the course. The courses do involve reading materials which includes medical and industry specific terminology. Consequently, students will be required to keep neat, accurate written records in line with normal clinical practice.
Study pathways Our courses have been designed to build upon skills at each level. In some cases, it is possible to ‘Fast Track’ your studies by selecting pathways that build the foundation for the Diploma, or to complete Statements of Attainment in a specialisation to ‘add on’ to existing qualifications. ‘Fast Tracking’ of qualifications is also possible if you meet the criteria for Mutual Recognition, Credit Transfer, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC).
Recognition of Prior Learning / Current CompetencyRecognition (RPL and RCC) is the process of obtaining formal recognition for skills and knowledge you have acquired through previous study or work. This may be used as evidence to demonstrate competency in a unit without having to undertake further training. If you believe you may be eligible for recognition, please speak to ATA staff prior to enrolment.
Transfer of Credit Transfer of Credit arrangements are in place to allow students (who have previously completed an equivalent academic course) transition to the new qualifications. This process may also apply in determining cross credit for similar Units from different Training Packages. Transfer of Credit arrangements may also apply if you have completed prior studies with Andrew Barnes in some specialist body therapy areas.
Assessments All students will be required to demonstrate competency in their chosen course. Assessment is based on assignment work, practical work, class participation and student attitude. Some training programs are delivered holistically and units may be clustered together into training programs to avoid repeat assessments.
Deferrals and leaving the course early Students who wish to withdraw from the course after 14 days, due to unavoidable circumstances, are able to request deferment of their studies to a future course upon negotiation with the Director. In these circumstances, their fees will be held in trust until such time as the deferred studies commence. If you have paid for a full course, but have to withdraw for any reason, please refer to the relevant refund policy to view your rights and responsibilities.
Complaints and appeals ATA’s policy on Complaints and Appeals ensures respect for the rights and responsibilities for all. The policy and procedures allow you to obtain natural justice up to and including the Department of Fair Trading, the Department of Education and Training or common law. You have the right to make an appeal or lodge a grievance without penalty or reprisal of any form.
Client Support and Literacy If you have any literacy and numeracy or learning problems, please tell us about these prior to enrolling so that we may assist you to be successful in your learning. We can give you a literacy and numeracy self-test to help you pinpoint where you need help. Completing work by distance or flexible learning does require you to become an independent learner. If you require help to keep up, we will support you so that you can achieve your goals. Should you or we feel that you require further support, we will assist you as much as we can.
Your Health Working as a complementary health therapist does require you to maintain a reasonable level of physical stamina and fitness. It would be wise to alert ATA to any physical limitations you may have so that we can ensure that you are assisted to manage your own health needs during training. If you have any doubts whether your condition would preclude you from undertaking the practical aspects of the course, you should discuss this with your medical practitioner.
Welfare and Guidance ATA is committed to providing students requiring additional support, advice or assistance whilst training. To achieve this, and to ensure quality delivery of training and education, ATA can arrange various levels of counselling. Should you ever need to discuss these options with ATA staff, you can be assured of full privacy and confidentiality.
Government Study Assistance Students of ATA may be eligible for Austudy, Abstudy, or Youth Allowance which are financial assistance schemes administered by Centrelink. For more information contact your local Centrelink office.
Access and Equity At ATA we maintain a policy for Access and Equity which covers equal opportunity and anti-discrimination. It is prohibited to discriminate against any person (staff or student) in regards to the following issues; age, physical appearance, gender, pregnancy, sexual preference, psychological situation, marital status or religion.
Conduct and Etiquette Any student enrolled at ATA is expected to behave in a professional and dignified manner with regard to fellow students, lecturers and all members of administration. A student may be asked to discontinue their studies if in the opinion of the Academy Director that student has: not complied with ATA’s policies; not satisfied academic requirements or has been rude to other staff/students.
